The Nieuport XI was a fast, agile fighter, used in large numbers by the French army at Verdun.
Without a firing through the propeller mechanism, its Lewis machine gun was its main weakness.
In addition, its 47-round magazine only allowed three or four seconds of firing. The displayed unit was decorated, with no historical foundation, with the insignia of Commander de Rose to illustrate the importance of this officer in reorganising fighter missions at the start of the Battle of Verdun.
